Starfish Initiative is proud to announce that it’s one of eight finalists – the only from Indiana – for the third annual Gerry Rauenhorst Building Community Award. The award winner will receive a $64,000 grant from the Opus Foundation®.
From April 4 – 14, the public will have the opportunity to vote for Starfish at http://bit.ly/StarOpus. Public support will be a factor in determining the award winner.
Starfish focuses on increasing Marion County high school graduation success and college persistence rates among low-income students through mentorship. To date, 100 percent of Starfish Scholars who complete the program graduate from high school, 96 percent of Starfish Scholars go on to college, where in the past 6 years 77 percent have earned or are in pursuit of their postsecondary degrees.
Established to honor Gerry Rauenhorst, philanthropist and founder of The Opus Group®, the Gerry Rauenhorst Building Community Award recognizes Gerry’s legacy of giving and commemorates the rich history and tradition that dates back to 1953. One nonprofit will be awarded $64,000, recognizing the 64-year tradition.
